Second Donation to Nehemiah

Thanks to your support, we were able to make a $750 donation to the Nehemiah Center for Urban Development. We are excited and blessed to be able to support their mission to combat racial inequality in our community. The money will go towards supporting collaborative education for students and a Center for Black Excellence, among other things. Saranghae Desserts is looking forward to a continued successful partnership!

Nehemiah and Saranghae Partnership Video

We were lucky enough to get to speak with Nehemiah's Director of Communications, Eli Steenlage! He put together an amazing video that tells Saranghae's founding story, how we got involved with Nehemiah, and much more. Check it out here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKEAFJyx0ks

First Donation to Nehemiah

Thanks to the help of our wonderful customers, we were able to give our first donation of $250 to Nehemiah Center for Urban Development! It will go toward their learning pod program, which aims to help students struggling with online school.

Nehemiah directly touches thousands in Madison annually -- housing and mentoring African American ex-offenders, creating podcasts and teaching lecture series that educate the non-Black community on African American history and systemic racism, and advocating for policies that reduce incarceration of African Americans and that encourage economic development. There are also free resources such as movie discussion and book discussion guides which we will strive to help promote through monthly newsletters, so that there can be greater understanding about racism in our community.

Announcing New 2021 Partnership: Nehemiah Center

Nehemiah Center for Urban Development is a local organization dedicated to fighting for Black empowerment and community. For more information or to get involved with Nehemiah, visit https://nehemiah.org/.

Saranghae Desserts invites all our customers to consider the racial inequities in Madison and how they might engage in making a difference. 100% of customer purchases go directly towards this mission. We hope that many customers are inspired by what we are trying to do, and that it will spur them on to make a difference in race relations themselves or to get involved in organizations like Nehemiah.

In addition, as an Asian-American business, we are trying to model what it means for Asians to be involved in what is often a "Black-White" conversation. We hope that this will help promote respect and understanding among the Asian-American community for the challenges within the African American community. We hope that our business represents a positive step for the relations between the Asian and African American community.
